Headteacher’s Message

Welcome to Taverham Junior School!

TJS is a ’Voluntary Controlled’, Church of England school, maintained by the Local Authority. We have an expectation that all of our pupils aim for the highest standards in all that they do, whether it be academic work, relationships, sporting and musical activities or outstanding behaviour. We are committed to mixed-ability, cross-curricular teaching that provides a broad, balanced education of the ‘whole child’, with the aim of creating happy, healthy and high-achieving pupils. As well as academic success, we are proud of, and celebrate, our children’s achievements in music and sport, helped by the wide range of extra-curricular activities that we offer.

Our approach to everything we do is guided by our Christian vision of ‘Learning for a Fuller Life’. You can find out more about our vision and aims on the ‘Our Vision‘ page of our website.

Our school is set in large grounds with four playgrounds.  We have two large playing fields, an artificial grass area, a modern trim trail, a traversing wall, a nature/wildlife area, den-building area, a school garden with a pond, as well as numerous areas for pupils to sit and reflect, or chat with friends. Indoor facilities include a multi-purpose hall, a music/drama studio and a large, attractive and well-stocked library.  All of our classrooms are well equipped with computers and new interactive panels; we have complete wireless access, with mini-iPads and laptops for children to use.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2023 confirmed that the school is still officially ‘Good’. The report identified how welcoming and supportive our school is and that children respond really well to the high expectations our staff have of them. It also recognised the strength of teacher subject knowledge, our engaging curriculum and how well supported all children are. The report can be found here.

This website is detailed in its content and we hope that it enables you and your child to gain an initial understanding of our aims and the way in which Taverham Junior School operates. We believe that school and families must work closely together and we look forward to developing a positive and successful relationship with you and your child.

Our key policies are available on the website, along with details of our curriculum and how we spend our ‘Pupil Premium’ and ‘Sport Premium’ money. If there is anything you wish to know that is not included on the website, please contact the school.

We look forward to meeting you.
